The Process


Creating this prototype was quite the adventure!

Originally, I set out to turn the classic snake game into an epic 1v1 battle to the death. Imagine starting as tiny snakes and racing to grow bigger by gobbling up pellets before your opponent!

But then, I hit a coding roadblock. As detailed in the Game Design Document (GDD), the gameplay was meant to unfold in three awesome stages.

Stage one was all about speed—two players racing to devour pellets faster than the other, a 2 player version of classic snake if you will.

Stage two got interesting. The player with the longest snake went full offense, trying to trap their opponent while the other snake kept munching pellets to bulk up.

And then there was stage three, where both snakes faced off on even ground.

Unfortunately, I couldn't crack the code for the pellet system as planned. So, the game ended up sticking with just stage three. It's fun, no doubt, but it lacks the escalation of tension and release that could have been possible.
